Media and Interaction Design (Master's)

Media and interaction design is about designing and developing engaging solutions for new media.

What will you learn?

You will gain a highly industry-relevant educational qualification that enables you to design prototypes on new media, and evaluate the user experience of both media producers and media users.

Key themes and issues of the study programme include:

  • What is good interactive media content?
  • What does the media of the future look like?
  • How can interaction design and technical solutions help media producers create better media content?

Through the media, people receive information that makes it possible for them to participate in the public debate. With digital systems, we see an increased demand for new technical solutions and new formats for audience participation and user-generated content.

The education programme will train you to identify and develop many solutions to the challenges the media face when it comes to better and more efficient workflows.

Student life

Rather than lectures, teaching takes place through seminar groups, workshops, discussion groups and field courses. This is a full-time study programme and you should expect to participate in eight hours of organised teaching weekly, as well as additional self-study. Teaching and literature are in English.

In the first year you will have access to a shared study room, while in the second year you can apply for a permanent study desk. All courses are compulsory, and there are mandatory work requirements related to each course.

The programme provides its teaching in Media City Bergen, a knowledge and industry cluster where the university is co-located with media and media technology companies such as TV2, NRK, Vizrt, Bergens Tidende, Mediability and Vimond. This location gives the students a unique proximity to the media industry.

Career

Today, most sectors are digitised and there is an increasing awareness of making digital solutions more user friendly. Being able to understand, and to create good digital solutions that match the user’s needs, are skills and knowledge that are highly attractive in the work field today.

Some of the jobs you qualify for with this education programme:

  • Interaction Designer
  • UX Designer
  • Front-end Developer
  • Media Entrepreneur
  • Digital Media Developer
