CEDAS FDA-VDS seminar 2026
From June 15 to 19, CEDAS organized a successful international seminar on functional data analysis (FDA) including also a fruitful discussion about its connection to visual data science (VDS).

The seminar brought together 16 experts and enthusiasts, including MSc and PhD students, PostDocs, as well as several professors, for an immersive week of talks, discussions, and hands-on engagement about the interaction of FDA and VDS. The basics of FDA were discussed as well as recent new findings on the topic. Furthermore, future research ideas and associated activities were discussed and planned.
The seminar took place in the city center of Bergen, starting late afternoon on Monday, 15 June, and ending with lunch on Friday, 19 June. Besides two contributors from Brno, Czechia, and Graz, Austria, several FDA specialists from TU Wien as well as VDS experts from VRVis participated along with UiB faculty and students.
Both statisticians as well as computer scientists agreed that complementing each other in an attempt to improve the data science opportunities for data exploration and analysis is very promising.
