Professor Eva Ringdal Pedersen was interviewed by Bergens Tidende on June 7, 2025, about risk factors associated with participating in running events, and when it may be necessary to stop or refrain from participating.

“Participating in running events is not without risk,” Pedersen explains. “The most important risk factors include insufficient training, active infection, or known heart disease. In general, being physically active and pushing yourself is not dangerous. However, if you experience chest pain, palpitations, dizziness, near fainting, nausea, or vomiting, you should stop immediately. Individuals should carefully consider whether to run a marathon if they have a respiratory infection, and that maintaining adequate hydration during the event is essential."
