Pandemic breakfast #7
The goal of the pandemic breakfast is to get acquainted with ongoing research on pandemic-related issues and future crises/multi-crises, and to inspire collaboration between various disciplines to initiate knowledge preparedness from multiple perspectives.
Trygve Ottersen is a Norwegian MD and PhD from University of Bergen. He is director general in the Norwegian Medical Products Agency. Secure supply of medical products is critical in normal times, in pandemics, and other crises. Yet, today’s supply chains are complex and vulnerable, as highlighted by frequent drug shortages, the covid-19 pandemic, and ongoing conflicts. Trygve Ottersen will present how the Norwegian Medical Products Agency addresses this challenge.
Dr. Christophe Fraser Christophe Fraser is the Moh Family Foundation Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the University of Oxford and Head of Epidemiology at Oxford’s new Pandemic Sciences Institute.
Christophe’s team drives innovation in infectious disease prevention and public health. They have accelerated the adoption of pathogen genomics in HIV prevention, developed multi-pathogen sequencing approaches, and, more recently, created contact tracing apps for COVID-19.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, his team conducted the foundational epidemiological analyses that motivated the development of digital contact tracing. In collaboration with the UK’s Department of Health, Google, and Apple, they developed apps estimated to have prevented more than ten thousand deaths.
Christophe Fraser has worked as an epidemiologist for 25 years, contributing significantly to responses against HIV/AIDS, SARS, Ebola, MERS, and antimicrobial resistance.
