On 6 December, thousands of curious minds of all ages gathered in Bergen for the educational sustainability trail Bærekraft i Bergen, organized by the Bergen Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Fana Sparebank. From the University of Bergen, and UiB Realfaghøyden, Professor Martin Fernø and the students Alida van Wijngaarden, Hedda Farestveit Berge, and Maria Reitan participated.

The trail ran from Fløibanen to Torgallmenningen, and the reservoir physics group had a prime spot at Pitterhaugen to demonstrate CO₂ capture and storage. This activity represented Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7): Affordable and clean energy.

There was a steady flow of families, with more than 70 curious children and young people eager to learn how CO₂ can be captured using water. Many happy and surprised faces appeared as the children watched their water turn blue and measured how much CO₂ they had captured.

“It was amazing to see how many children (and adults) were interested in our activity and became curious about how CO₂ capture and storage works. I felt that we helped many gain a better understanding of the technology and of the work we do at UiB to ensure cleaner energy for everyone!” says master’s student Alida van Wijngaarden.

A very rewarding and educational day. Well done, everyone!
