HBSC Data Management Centre

About the HBSC study

Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children (HBSC) started in 1984 with five participating countries. Since then, the project has grown to become a major cross-national survey with more than 50 member countries, most of them in Europe. The survey is conducted every fourth year among 11, 13 and 15 year old pupils, and its purpose is to gather information about schoolchildren's health behaviours and well-being.

Data is used both for research and as a factual basis for policy making. The WHO Regional Office for Europe is an important partner in the project.

HBSC Data Management Centre

The work with the international data is coordinated by the HBSC Data Management Centre, based at the Department of Health Promotion and Development (HEMIL) at the University of Bergen. The centre coordinates the international datafile and the trend data, and serves as the data bank for the HBSC study. Data is distributed in accordance with the HBSC data access policy.

Please note: the HBSC 2021/22 data is under embargo until October 2026.

HBSC Data Archive

The HBSC Data Archive is only available to members of the HBSC network.

HBSC International Coordinating Centre

The network is led by an international coordinating centre, the HBSC International Coordinating Centre, currently based at the University of Glasgow, Scotland.
