New user
- New users will get an introduction to the equipment and the rules related to it.
- All users will be trained before access to the equipment is allowed.
- Follow up after training is given as long as users need it.
- After training the users will get access to booking the instrument online.
Publishing results obtained at MIC
To document the use of MIC, we strongly encourage you to acknowledge MIC in publications that use data acquired through our services.
Please use this sentence or similar:
"The ...... imaging was performed at the Molecular Imaging Center (MIC), Department of Biomedicine, University of Bergen."
Booking rules
- Booking of the equipment before use is mandatory. If you are too late to prolong a booking, notify MIC personnel and the hours will be post registered.
- Do not reserve equipment for more than 4 hours per day (preferably before or after lunch). Longer bookings are allowed if the equipment remains available on the same day.
- Time-lapse experiments exceeding 4 hours should be notified in advance and, if possible, scheduled after 16:00 or during the weekend.
- The person booked has to be present during the operation of the instrument.
- While booked, you are responsible for the equipment, even if you do not use it.
- Cancellations done later than 12 hours before planned use of instrument will be charged a cancellation fee.
- Cancellation within the day of the planned booking should be notified MIC personnel.
General rules on the systems
- If you are not sure how to operate the equipment, ask the responsible personnel.
- Remember to fill in the log book: date, name, time, etc.
- Notify responsible personnel of any failure on the system.
- If another user is booked after you, ensure they arrive before you leave. If you finish early or the next user does not show up, try to contact them or notify MIC staff. If neither is possible, turn off the system.
Data handeling and processing
- The imaging systems are for image acquisition only.
- You will have access to the image processing software at computer workstations.
- Data stored temporarily must be removed from the local hard disk of the equipment. Data will be deleted from the hard disks without notification.
- The users and their PIs are themselves responsible for knowing when data falls into the category of SENSITIVE data and how it must be handled and stored. The data must immediately after imaging be stored to an appropriate storage and deleted from the instrument.
- MIC offers the possibility of temporary data storage (not sensitive data) on the server MIC_TempStore as long as you work at MIC. You are yourself responsible for safe savings of your data, and when you have made your backups please delete the data from MIC_TempStore. Data older than 6 months will be deleted automatically (by a automated script) and without notification.
- To get access to the MIC_TempStore fill in this form Access to MIC_TempStore.
FAIR and Open access
- We encourage all users to comply with the FAIR principles and make their data accessible through open access resourses (more info UiB & more info Euro-BioImaging).
- Depending on the nature of the image data, different BioImage repositories are available. A decision tree for selecting the appropriate image repository for your type of images (provided by Euro-BioImaging) can be downloaded below.
- Project templates of Data Management Plans (DMP) for both Light Microscopy and Preclinical imaging data can be found DS Wizard ELIXIR-Norway, log in to get access.
