Osteological collections
The osteological collection is the largest animal bone collection in Norway and one of the largest in Scandinavia. The collection contains subfossil bone material from around 2,000 localities and around 15,000 recent skeletons of fish, birds and mammals.

The osteological collection contains approximately 3 million subfossil bones and bone fragments from archaeological and geological excavations in Norway and abroad. In addition, the collection contains around 15,000 recent skeletons of fish, mammals, birds and reptiles, and a collection of human milk teeth.
The collection forms a strong basis for our research, which focuses on North European faunal history and Quaternary climate and environmental history.
