The Norwegian Institute at Athens
The Norwegian Institute at Athens (NIA) connects the Norwegian and Greek academic communities and is dedicated to teaching, research and dissemination of scientific results related to humanities and social sciences. Its particular focus is on the cultural heritage, history and archaeology of Greece and the Mediterranean.
About
The institute is a home away from home for students and researchers from Norwegian institutions, who may profit from a stay in Greece in connection to their research and studies. The Institute:
- facilitates the work of Norwegian scholars in Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean
- provides logistic support for academic and administrative visiting groups
- offers student courses in collaboration with participating universities from Norway
- has several completed and ongoing archaeological field projects
- maintains a peer-reviewed publication series
- provides library access in Athens

We maintain a well-regarded and popular lecture series in Athens. We offer several lectures per year related to our fields of research with Greek, Norwegian, and International speakers.
Our lectures, with permission from the presenters, are conducted in a hybrid format, live-streamed via Zoom.
