Monitoring and risk assessment for groundwater sources in rural communities of Romania
About the research project
The project proposed to improve groundwater monitoring methods to improve the quality of life in rural communities that rely on local water sources and to raise water users' awareness of potential health risks and the need to protect vulnerable groundwater ecosystems. The target groups in our research were rural communities in Romania and Norway without access to a public water supply. The local sources of water utilised are taken directly from wells, caves and springs.
In the Norwegian part of the project, small karst springs in Nordland were monitored for water quality and vulnerability assessment.
