Use data from the Norwegian Panel of Journalists

It is possible to use data from existing surveys, or you can ask your own questions of participants in the journalist panel.

In short

The Norwegian Panel of Journalists has so far only conducted one survey, as part of the pilot KODEM_DEMO in 2020–2021. In 2026, the journalist panel will be relaunched as the newest panel in the national infrastructure KODEM.

The data will be made available to everyone for use in research and teaching via Sikt, in the form of a simplified dataset without background variables. To access more complete datasets, you must apply for access via SAFE, UiB’s secure data management system. Before doing so, you can check the codebooks, which are publicly available, to see if there is data relevant to you and your project.

The info pages on codebooks and method reports are just in Norwegian now, but you will there find links to English codebooks and method reports.

Do you want to ask your own questions?

Research projects can purchase time for data collection in the journalist panel, citizen panel, panel of politicians, panel of public administrators, or a combination of these.
If you are applying for a project and want to use KODEM data, get in touch. The same applies if you already have funding and wish to buy access. Contact kodem@uib.no, or Erla Løvseth (erla.lovseth@uib.no).

In addition, during the establishment phase of KODEM, we will regularly announce opportunities for pre-projects. These are aimed at researchers and research groups led from universities, research institutes, or colleges in Norway who wish to establish a new project that does not yet have funding. Calls for proposals will be announced on KODEM’s website.
