North Sea–Western Norway source-sink dynamics
The northern North Sea basin, located between main source areas in West Norway and the northern British Isles, is a basin that has received sediment influx from its surrounding margins and hinterlands for at least 250 million years. The available amount of offshore seismic and well data is extensive, and the Norwegian source area are now being explored with new methodology, mostly by UiB researchers. Our goal is to integrate off/onshore legacy and new data (collected as part of this project) to make a thorough and integrated analyses of the eastern northern North Sea basin and its source areas onshore Norway, using modern methods and a world-leading expert team. The outcome will be a valuable knowledge platform for further hydrocarbon exploration and consideration of carbon sequestration, particularly in the area east of the Viking-Sogn graben.
