Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for programmes starting in January?

Spring admission to our master's programmes is only available to Nordic citizens or applicants currently residing in Norway.

This is due to practical challenges for EU applicants in securing accommodation before the semester begins in early January.

Admission results are published in early December, while the deadline for guaranteed housing through Sammen is 1 November. Consequently, international students admitted through the spring admission process are responsible for arranging their own accommodation, and in most cases, there is insufficient time to do so before the semester starts.

For this reason, we do not open spring admission to EU applicants.

If you have already secured accommodation in Bergen and you are still interested in applying to our programmes starting in January, please contact us, and we will assist you with the application process.

For more information about the January admission, see Application procedure for Nordic citizens and applicants residing in Norway | UiB

Do I have to send copies of my documents by mail?

No, we do not accept documents sent by post - you have to upload all the documents to Søknadsweb.

Note that if you are granted admission, you have to bring your originals to Bergen for verification.

Do I have to upload all the documents by 1 March?

Yes, but there is one exception:

  • If you complete your bachelor's degree during the application semester you must also upload:
    • Your higher education completed to date.
    • A list of courses you are registered for and the expected date for completion.
Do I have to upload recommendations letters?

No, we do not require you to upload recommendation letters as part of the application process. Please check the list of required documents

How long should the motivation letter be?

This is up to you to decide, but approximately 1 page (450 words) is a good standard.

I have applied for two study programmes; do I have to write two motivation letters?

You can upload two different letters or write them as one. Both options are acceptable.

How do I upload documents?

When you create your application, you follow the steps (1-5) on Søknadsweb and upload accordingly.

If you log in later, choose My documents from the top menu and from there upload your documents. You can upload documents to Søknadsweb at any time until the given deadline.

I cannot find 'My documents' in the top menu - what do I do?

This is mainly an issue for applicants using a smart phone or tablet to apply: If you can't find 'My documents' in the top menu, click on the three white stripes in the top left corner and you will find 'My documents' in the drop-down menu.

The list of documents to upload contains titles like 'Learning agreement', 'Diploma' and 'Repertoire for audition' - does this apply to me?

The document titles listed are the same for all admissions to UiB, some of them will therefore not apply to you. You should only choose the titles that corresponds to the documents you wish to upload. If you cannot find a relevant title, choose 'Other'.

My application status says Under consideration. What does it mean?

The status of your application will be Under consideration on Søknadsweb until we have finished the processing.

On Søknadsweb there is no button to officially send my application

Søknadweb does not have a button to officially submit your application. Your application is officially complete when:

  • You have filled in your complete home address.
  • You have selected the study programmes you wish to apply for.
  • You have uploaded all the required documentation.

You can change your application until the deadline 1 March. The status of your application will be Under consideration on Søknadsweb until we have finished the processing and published the result.

Should I send any documents by post?

No, you do not need to send any documents by post. We will check the original documents of admitted students after arrival at UiB.

What does the question "Do you have higher education from another university or college" mean?

Please select Yes. It is simply a control-question and will not have any implications for your application.
