Course description
Objectives and Content
In the third semester, you deepen your practice through continued experimentation, dialogue, and implementation of relevant artistic tools and methods. You develop your ability to contextualize your work in relation to contemporary and historical practices, and explore professional practice as relevant to your own working methods.
ART modules are designed to support your independent art practice. You develop self-initiated artworks and projects in dialogue with your main tutor and participate in complementary activities such as group critiques, year-group meetings, exhibitions, seminars, reflection exercises, and professional development workshops.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
- Articulate conceptual reasoning in relation to your art practice
- Develop strategies for presentation based on a consideration of how different approaches affect content and meaning
Skills
- Obtain relevant knowledge from external sources
- Experiment with relevant tools and methods
General competence
- Begin to formulate your own artistic language
- Create self-initiated artworks and projects
- Critically reflect upon your own work and process, as well as that of your peers
Teaching and learning methods
ART modules are designed to support your individual art practice. The development of your work takes place in close dialogue with your main tutor through guidance, both individual and in groups, that stimulates exploration and experimentation. Group critiques encourage you to hone your reflective and analytical skills in relation to the work of your peers.
Early in the semester, you submit an individual semester plan outlining goals and proposed activities. These activities must correspond to the learning objectives of the module and must be approved by your main tutor.
While emphasis is on independent development, you are encouraged to attend lectures, presentations, seminars, and workshops as available. In addition to your tutor group activities, you meet regularly with your year group throughout the semester.
Compulsory Assignments and Attendance
- Attendance at a minimum of four meetings with main tutor, individually and/or in groups
- Submission of individual semester plan
