Computer Networks and Cybersecurity

Undergraduate course

Course description

Objectives and Content

INF141 focuses on the most important concepts in computer networks. The course considers problems that arise at different layers in a hierarchic communication model, and discusses how these problems are solved. Special emphases are placed on how to design application programs based on the services provided by the transport layer, and on network security.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence

Knowledge

The student should be able to

• Design, understand, analyze, and revise simple communication protocols,

• Explain a layered communication model and what challenges need to be addressed and solved in each layer

Skills

The student is able to

• Implement simple client-server applications in a high level programming language,

• Assess the limitations upon service quality that are inherent in the choice of technology.

General competence

The student

• Understand common threats against network security, and corresponding defensive strategies
