Research Topics in Networks and Text Analysis

Postgraduate course

Course description

Objectives and Content

The course will provide both theoretical and practical basis for the topics covered in the course. It will allow the students to engage into research projects in both network science and text analysis.

The course will establish a theoretical understanding of many problems and methods studied in network science and/or text analysis. After establishing the basics, the focus will be put on the study of networks of texts in particular. Participants will also gain practical experience with the studied material by performing their own analysis of real-world data.

Learning Outcomes

A student who has completed the course should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge: The candidate

  • knows various theoretical and practical issues in network theory and text analysis.
  • knows relevant research and trends in network science and text analysis, as well as new research problems.

Skills: The candidate

  • can apply the appropriate techniques to analyze big networked data and to explain their choice of technologies to solve particular problems.
