Objectives and Content
Learning Outcomes
After completion of the thesis, the student possesses the following competence:
Knowledge
The student knows
- the characteristics of scientific thinking and methods
- the characteristics of innovation and entrepreneurship, and which methods they are founded upon
- the ethical rules that apply to scientific and innovative work, e.g. with regards to personal data
- how a scientific article should be structured
Skills
The student is able to
- locate, understand, and analyze scientific literature
- assess whether an article complies with fundamental scientific principles
- select appropriate methods for the problems raised in their thesis
- work independently under academic supervision
- present their own and other scientific or innovative work written and orally in an understandable and precise manner
- work with the methods required for conducting research, scientific dissemination, entrepreneurship or service innovation
General competence
The student
- can reflect upon the role of research and innovation in producing knowledge, and its relevance for clinical practice
- demonstrates a responsible attitude towards ethics and honest conduct in research and innovation
- demonstrates a critical, but positive, attitude towards research results, and has, when applicable, an understanding of when and how scientific results may be developed towards innovative solutions

Access to the Course
Teaching and learning methods
Work on the thesis is founded on several elements from the cand. med.-degree programme which are parts of the academic track: Statistics, epidemiology, literature search and reading, research ethics and publication ethics. A seminar with relevant topics for thesis work is also provided in the 6th semester.
Thesis work is supervised, and a contract with the supervisor regarding topic and framework must be signed before work on the thesis commences.
Compulsory Assignments and Attendance
- The students are to submit a project description with a set deadline in the 8th semester. This must be approved.
- The thesis must be presented in a relevant academic forum, and the presentation must be approved by the student's supervisor.
- The thesis must be ready for presentation in a joint event at the end of the 10th semester.
Forms of Assessment
The thesis will be assessed by an internal examiner. There are guidelines for this assessment.
