Objectives and Content

Aim:

Clinical practice in the public dental health service will prepare the candidate for the professional life and facilitate the transition from being a student to practicing as a dentist.

Content:

Through teaching in clinical disciplines and community dentistry, as well as experiences, observations, reflections and conversations during clinical practice, the students will gain increased understanding of:

  • how the dental health service (public and private) is organised and functions.
  • the issues faced by t patients and various types of dental personnel.

Learning Outcomes

After having completed "Praksisstudiet" internship, the student has the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge:

The student:

  • has a certain knowledge of most types of dental health services (public and private).
  • has insight into the organisation, administration, financing and running of the dental service (public and private).

Skills:

The student:

  • describes and understands the problems encountered by both patients and dental health personnel.
  • recognises the importance of a preventive dental care..
  • Identifies and understands the need for efficient communication with patients, auxiliary personnel, colleagues and other collaborators (including teamwork).

General competence:

Through "Praksisstudiet" internship, the student demonstrates ability to observe and critical evaluate.

Teaching and learning methods

The course component t of "Praksisstudiet" internship consists of lectures and mandatory seminars.

"Praksisstudiet" internship consists of a three-week period in the Public Dental Health Service at the beginning of the autumn semester, including writing a report/journal.

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

Completion of a three week period of clinical practice in The Public Dental Health Service.

It is not permitted to have more than two attempts at mandatory teaching in this subject.

Submission of a written report/ diary/ reflective essay.

Course Evaluation
The course is evaluated every third year, in accordance with the University of Bergen's system for quality in education.
Examination Support Material
The evaluation is based on the report from The Practical Training. Every available aid is allowed.
