Why can't I register for a course in Studentweb?

There may be several reasons why you are unable to register for a Norwegian language course in Studentweb. The three most common are:

1. The registration period has not yet opened. Check the registration dates and try again later.
2. You do not meet the prerequisite requirements. Check the course description to see which prerequisites apply. If you believe you meet the requirements but are still unable to register, please contact studynorwegian@uib.no.
3. The course is full. If the course you wish to take is full, please check again later. Any places that become available will be released in Studentweb until the registration deadline (1 September / 1 February).

I am on the waiting list for a Level 1 course (NOR-INTRO, NOR-U1, NOR-U1/2). When can I expect to hear back?

We contact applicants on the waiting list on an ongoing basis. If you have not heard from us by 1 February or 1 September, unfortunately this means that we are unable to offer you a place.

Can I change groups?

If you are enrolled in a Level 1 course and wish to change groups after being admitted, you must first find another student who is willing to swap groups with you. Once you have found someone to exchange with, one of you can complete this form.

Please check your course page in Mitt UiB to find another student who would like to switch to your current group.

Students in Level 2 and above may register for available places in Studentweb.

I have applied for admission to the Norwegian language courses through Søknadsweb. When will I receive a response?

You should not expect to receive a decision on your application until at least one month after the application deadline. All offers of admission will be sent by email.

Why have I received a reminder to register for the semester and/or pay the semester fee?

International employees and their partners are not required to register for the semester or pay the semester fee. Any automatic reminders regarding these matters can be ignored.

The administration will register admitted international employees and partners for the semester, classes, and examinations around the semester registration deadlines (1 February and 1 September).

I have been offered a place on a Norwegian language course, but unfortunately I need to withdraw. Can I reserve my place for next semester?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to reserve a place on a Norwegian language course for a future semester. However, we hope that you will apply again at a later date.

If you need to withdraw from a Norwegian language course, it is important that you notify the administration at studynorwegian@uib.no.

The course schedule does not fit with the rest of my timetable. Can I change groups?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to change groups. We offer one Level 2 course (NOR-U2B) and one Level 3 course (NOR-U3B) for refugees and immigrants. In addition, a limited number of places are reserved in Level 4 (NOR-U4).

I need to withdraw from a course I have been admitted to. Can I reserve a place for next semester?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to reserve a place for a future semester. However, you are very welcome to apply again at a later date.

If you wish to withdraw from a course, please notify us by emailing studynorwegian@uib.no.

You can order a digitally signed transcript of records through Studentweb by selecting “Orders” from the top menu. Your transcript will be available under “Documents” after approximately 10 minutes.

If you are no longer an active student at UiB, you can log in using ID-porten.

As a rule, we do not issue certificates of course attendance, participation, or grades.

We do not align our courses directly with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), but we estimate that:

• NOR-INTRO corresponds approximately to CEFR A2
• NOR-U1 corresponds approximately to CEFR A2
• NOR-U2 corresponds approximately to CEFR B1
• NOR-U3 corresponds approximately to CEFR B2
• NOR-U4 corresponds approximately to CEFR C1

The Norwegian police and the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) may consider exemptions from the Norwegian oral test and the social studies test if you can document completion of one of the following course combinations at the University of Bergen:

• NOR-U1 + NOR-U2 (30 ECTS), or
• NOR-U1/2 (30 ECTS), or
• NOR-U2 + NOR-U3 (30 ECTS), or
• NOR-U3 (15 ECTS)

To document your Norwegian language proficiency when applying for an exemption, you may submit your UiB transcript of records.
