Who can borrow objects?
The University Museum of Bergen lends objects to other museums and similar institutions. Lending is an important part of the museum's mission to society, as it helps make the collections accessible to as wide an audience as possible and places objects in new and relevant academic and outreach contexts.
A basic requirement for lending is that it does not pose a risk of damage to the objects. In addition, the objects must not be needed for the University Museum of Bergen's own research or outreach activities during the loan period.
It is also a requirement that the museum has sufficient resources to plan and carry out the loan in a professionally sound manner.
Please note that the University Museum does not process loan applications before 1 March 2027, due to the relocation of the collections.
How to apply for a loan
Applications for loans from the cultural history collections must include an application form and a facility report, and be sent to samkons@uib.no. Complete loan applications must be submitted at least eight months before the planned exhibition opening.
