Kort info
Forskning
My current work focuses on the mineral pigment assemblages from Blombos and Klipdrift caves, located along the southern coast in South Africa. I use a combination of qualitative (general artefact overview) and quantitative (geochemical analyses) methods to understand the characteristics of the pigment assemblage from a physical and landscape perspective. These data can inform on the human behaviours associated with their aquisition and use, how these behaviours impacted and shaped the culture and society of the earliest humans in Africa, and how these evolved over time. Aside from mineral pigments, I also engage in rock art research, personal ornaments, raw material acquisition and transportation, and symbolic behaviours more generally. I have worked on sites in the USA, Canada, Germany, Israel, Oman, eSwatini, South Africa, and Norway.
Undervisning
I have taught courses on experimental archaeology, instructional overviews for archaeological applications of PXRF, North American archaeology, material culture analysis, and the prehistory of religion.
I have also supervised several MA projects and one PhD project on the ancient uses of ochre and rock art.
