Forskning

Chloe Lewis is an artist, writer, and educator based in Bergen, where she is Professor of Sculpture and Head of Education at the Art Academy, KMD.

Characterized by patterns of repetition, permutation, and adaptation, her practice bridges sculpture with systems of language and vernacular expression, often unfolding through the collaborative frameworks of the artist duo Lewis & Taggart and the artistic platform MOLAF.

Within these frameworks, Lewis' work has been presented at venues such as La Fonderie Darling, Montreal;  Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin; Looiersgracht 60, Amsterdam; Kunstnerforbundet, Oslo; Entrée, Bergen; The Centre for Art Nouveau, Ålesund; ISCP, New York; Syntax, Lisbon; The Symptom Project, Greece; The Centre for Contemporary Art, Warsaw; Cricoteka, Krakow; and Kunstverein Leipzig, Germany, among others. She is the recipient of numerous scholarships and international artist residencies, including studio awards at the Napoule Foundation, France; the Banff Centre, Canada; and Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin. Lewis regularly produces artists' books, and her publications are held in the collections of MoMA Artists’ Books, New York; Artexte, Montreal; The National Library of Norway; and the Paul D. Fleck Archives, Canada.

In parallel to her studio work, Lewis' research focuses on innovative and experimental models of education, and in recent years her teaching  practice has extended to Sweden, Iceland, Finland, the Netherlands, Poland, Estonia, Canada, and Ghana. In 2023, she established the research group Unsettling Hierarchies in Art Education at the University of Bergen, and in 2024 she was awarded the status of Excellent Teaching Practitioner at KMD.
