Fysiker som jobber med tverrfaglig forskning knyttet opp lys i havet. Lys er svært viktig for marine økosystemer, særlig planteplankton som bruker lys til å omdanne CO2 til biomasse og oksygen gjennom fotosyntese. Men det er fortsatt vanskelig å modellere akkurat hvor mye lys som trenger ned til 10, 30 eller 100 meter under havflaten – hvordan kan vi gjøre dette bedre? Dette er det jeg jobber med i min nåværende kontrakt på UiB.
I tillegg blir optiske målinger ofte brukt til å estimering av hvor mye plankton eller andre mikroskopiske partikler som befinner seg i havet, f. eks. ved bruk av fluorimetre, turbidimetre eller satelliter, men det er mange utfordringer knyttet til å forsøke å måle denne komplekse mikroskopiske verdenen på en enkel måte...
