Inga Berre er professor i anvendt matematikk og senterleder for Senter for modellering av koblet undergrunnsdynamikk (CSD) ved Universitetet i Bergen. Hun leder også forskningsgruppen for porøse medier.
Forskning

Inga Berre er professor ved Matematisk institutt og senterleder for Senter for modellering av koblet undergrunnsdynamikk (CSD) ved Universitetet i Bergen. Hun leder også forskningsgruppen for porøse medier. I 2023 var hun Argyris Visiting Professor ved SimTech Cluster of Excellence, Universitetet i Stuttgart. 

Hennes forskningsområder er matematisk modellering, partielle differensialligninger og numeriske metoder, motivert av simulering av koblede termo-hydro-mekanisk-kjemiske prosesser i undergrunnssystemer og reaktivering av forkastninger som følge av injeksjon og produksjon. Hun leder flere forskningsprosjekter innen dette temaet, inkludert ERC Consolidator Grant prosjektet "Mathematical and Numerical Modelling of Process-Structure Interaction in Fractured Geothermal Systems" (MaPSI, 2021-2026). 

Inga Berre har hatt en rekke valgte lederposisjoner internasjonalt, inkludert SIAM Council (medlem, 2022-2027), SIAM GS activity group (chair 2021-2022), SET-Plan Deep Geothermal Implementation Working Group (co-chair, 2019-2021), og Joint Program Geothermal, European Energy Research Alliance (leder, 2018-2021). 

Inga Berre er medlem av det internasjonale ekspertpanelet for "Knowledge Programme on Effects of Mining (KEM)" (2021-2027), som rådgir det nederlandske økonomidepartementet. Hun er også medlem av fem internasjonale vitenskapelige rådgivningspanler, inkludert Scientific Advisory Council for GFZ (2024-2027) og Advisory Board for SFB1313, Universitetet i Stuttgart (2018-). Hun er Associate Editor for Geothermal Energy, Springer (2020-) og ARC Geophysical Research (2024-), og medlem av Editorial Board for Interpore Journal  (2023-) og Advances in Geo-energy Research (AGER)

Ved Universitetet i Bergen er Berre medlem av Universitetsstyret (2021-2025). Hun har også vært medlem av flere styrer i Norges forskningsråd, inkludert Porteføljestyret for naturvitenskap og teknologi (2019-2023) og Divisjonsstyret for vitenskap (2015-2019). 

Berre er innvalgt medlem av Norges tekniske vitenskapsakademi (2017-) og medlem av Association for ERC Grantees. Hun mottok Meltzerprisen for yngre forskere 2011. 

Undervisning

Inga Berre har hatt ansvar for undervisning og utvikling av kurs på bachelor- og masternivå innen kalkulus, funksjonsanalyse, matematisk modellering og numeriske metoder, samt energi. I 2015 hadde hun ansvar for det én ukes kurset "Future Energy Landscapes" ved Bergen Summer Research School - The Sustainable Development Goals.

Inga Berre har veiledet 30 masterstudenter, hvorav 20 som hovedveileder. Hun har veiledet følgende doktorgradsstudenter:
