I et klinisk prosjekt undersøkes langtidseffekten av kognitiv terapi ved hypokondri. Pasienter som fikk 16 timer kognitiv terapi ved Hypokonderklinikken HDS i tidsrommet 1996-97 undersøkes 10-12 år etter avsluttet behandling. Resultatene sammenlignes med pasienter som fikk tilbud om 5 timers behandling i tidsrommet 2006-2007.   

Wilhelmsen er medveileder på PhD-grad ved Universitetet i Stavanger for sosialantropolog Kjersti B. Tharaldsen. Hun har utviklet og undersøker effekten av et "mindfullness-basert" mestringsopplegg som bygger på kognitiv psykologi og terapi. Konseptet prøves ut i grupper ved Dalane Videregående Skole i Egersund og et Distriktspsykiatrisk Senter.

 

Wilhelmsen er veileder for stud. med. Kari Elise Veddegjærde, som har vært forskerlinjestudent ved Det Medisinske Fakultet, UiB, på et kvalitativt prosjekt hvor man sammenligner hvordan norske og kenyanske pasienter med subjektive ryggsmerter uten organiske funn fortolker og forholder seg til sine plager. Det er en kvalitativ studie hvor pasienter i Norge og Kenya blir dybdeintervjuet. Prosjektet utføres i samarbeid med Unifob Helse ved UiB og University of Nairobi.
