Prosjekttitel - Analysing violent variations in ancient Jewish narrative

Beskrevet vold blir i dag behandlet som et selvinnlysende fenomen i gammel jødisk litteratur (ca. 500 f.Kr. – 300 e.Kr.). Vold som begrep blir redusert til en fysisk skadehandling, forstått av gamle forfattere på samme måte som moderne lesere. Å ramme inn vold på denne måten skaper tolkningsproblemer når man tar for seg disse tekstene og deres bruk gjennom historien. Denne grunnleggende konstruksjonen av vold begrenser vår forståelse av at vold ikke er enkelt, og at betydningen av vold ikke forblir konsistent mellom kulturer og over tid. AViVa vil analysere de formidlede normene for vold i skildringer av krigføring i gammel jødisk litteratur for å undersøke variasjoner i voldsepisoder i løpet av konflikter. Dette innovative konseptet vil føre analysen av gamle krigsfortellinger drastisk fremover og muliggjøre en virkelig meningsfull tverrkulturell dialog om temaet redelighet i krig. På denne måten kan vi utvikle et mer presist språk for å diskutere konflikter og skader i vår egen tid.
