In my PhD research project, I look at tensions in education oversight (school inspection). The first part of the project consists of a comparative cross-national case study, including a comparison of formal arrangements for education oversight in Norway, The Netherlands and England. In this study, a sociological-institutionalist approach is used to clarify which institutional logic constellations are reflection in the education oversight systems in these countries. In the following parts, attention shifts to possible discretionary dilemmas among Norwegian state officials working with education oversight.
The general aims of the PhD project are to contribute to theory on school inspection and provide empirical insights on education oversight in Norway.
