Moving to a new country is a big step. You're not only choosing a research project, department, or position – you're choosing a place to live, build a career, and create a new everyday life.

At UiB, we have long experience welcoming researchers and staff from around the world. Today, more than a 100 nationalities are represented at the university. Many have gone through the same process you may be considering now: relocating to a new country, navigating unfamiliar systems, and building a new professional network.

That's why we place a strong emphasis on helping international employees settle in and feel at home. Our dedicated International Centre for Staff team can assist with practical questions both before and after your arrival, making your transition to Bergen and UiB as smooth as possible.

• Guidance on moving to Norway, including immigration and registration procedures
• Information and support related to UiB Guest Housing (external link), as well as practical guidance for finding private accommodation
• Onboarding activities and social events organised by the International Centre for Staff (external link) throughout your first year at UiB, designed to help you get to know both the university and your new colleagues. The programme covers the essentials you need to know, while also offering useful local tips and insights
• Norwegian language courses at UiB, also available for partners of incoming staff
• Career development opportunities for PhD candidates, including support from UiB Ferd Career Centre for Early-Stage Researchers
• Psychological support for PhD candidates and younger researchers
