Research
Hello hello! I am a SEAS programme postdoctoral fellow. During work hours, I spend most of my time exploring the ideas and imaginations of blue growth. In particular, I spend time trying to figure out why and how blue growth aspirations are implemented in the SEAS programme and in the Norwegian venture of deep-sea mining. Not to get lost, I use guiding topics such as knowledge, expertise, power, and the notions of damage.
Our SEAS team is a group of postdocs from six faculties at UiB. We are privileged to work together, across disciplinary boundaries with a focus on marine sustainability.
Take a sneak peek behind the scenes in our blog! Cannot choose what to read first? Here is one of my favourites from SEAS teammate Paul about neurodivergence in academia. Here is my second favourite about sharing in academia.
We also have some podcast episodes planned, so follow us on MixCloud. Here is a podcast episode about my work.
In Norway, some of us are also lucky to be part of the AFINO network dedicated to responsible research. Here is my blog post from their thought-provoking, amazing summer school that was focused on Engaging in critical research within institutions.
Outreach
Are you looking for a webinar about deep-sea mining? Listen to this European Marine Board webinar where I presented some of my work: '"Mitigization" of the deepsea mining policy process in Norway.'
Do you have a shortage of blogs or podcasts in your life? I am one of the writers of the SEAS programme blog and our podcast, where you can get to know all things Ocean.
Are you planning to join a summer/autumn school? I participated in this amazing DLN & AFINO summer school focused on engaging in critical research within institutions. I wrote a blog post about its excitement and frustration.
If you enjoy listening to conference talks and discussions, here is a selection from me:
The SDG Bergen conference opening session panel (it has some of my work observations regarding the deep-sea mining question in Norway).
Here is a symposium on 'The future of deep-sea mining' that we organized with SEAS Ed at UiB.
Do you, like me, have the privilege to attend conferences? Then we may have met at these:
I presented research conducted with my colleague Laura E. Drivdal at the UMC2024 conference in Rarotonga: ‘Blue (un)certainties: deep-sea mining policy process in the Arctic Mid-Ocean Ridge, Norway.’
I co-organized and moderated a panel 'Beyond deep-sea mining' at the Arctic Circle Assembly.
I presented our research with my colleague Laura E. Drivdal at the Beyond Oil conference: ‘The deep-sea mining policy process in Norway: "mitigization" and losing opportunities for innovation?’
I presented preliminary results from research with L. E. Drivdal at MARE People and the Sea conference (2023): '"Mitigization" of deep-sea mining in Norway.' Additionally, I organized an ad-hoc session: 'Are there questions that we fail to ask in the time of the blue growth wave?'
I present my research at the Arctic Frontiers conference in Tromsø (2023): 'Tracing future production in blue growth projects and research.'
Teaching
I have no teaching duties as part of my postdoctoral work. But you can sometimes hear me teach short workshops or classes:
‘Deep-sea mining in Norway: when science meets policy (and all the uncomfortable things that happen there).’ One module in the Theory of Science and Ethics course.
NVivo seminar/workshop with Laura Drivdal and Michael Oduro Asante, Digital Lab, UiB.
I gave one lecture at the 'Climate Change and Ethical Challenges' course, NHH: 'Climate: who deals with it, who pays for it, who decides, and why would you care?'
