Research Group Theory of Science
This interdisciplinary research group, located at the Centre for the Study of the Sciences and the Humanities (SVT), works with different areas within theory of science.
About the research group
The field of theory of science includes philosophical, historical and social scientific research on the role the sciences has in society as well as epistemic and ethical aspects of science.
Topics include:
- The understanding of suffering as phenomenon and concept
- The interfaces of science and policy
- Technology in modern societies
- The use of models in climate science
- Bioethics
- Science and aesthetics
The research group has three core mandates:
- Organising and carrying out indepedent research in theory of science and particularly to develop the very field of theory of science.
- Strenghtening and developing theory of science for educational purposes at the University of Bergen.
- Offer and organise training in theory of science in particular for the PhD candidates at the centre.
