I am interested in why we punish, what punishment entails, and the consequences it has - and the relationship between these questions.

I am pursuing a PhD on the law of sentence enforcement in Norway and am affiliated with the EXPUN project.
Teaching

I teach, supervise, and examine law students. I am particularly interested in communicating what it can mean to think and reason in a legal way, and how legal reasoning differs from other forms of thinking and argumentation.

I have taught legal method and ethics at the University of Oslo and introductory legal method at the University of Bergen. In the autumn of 2026, I will teach criminal law at the University of Bergen.

I have supervised master's students writing theses on criminal procedure, human rights, and administrative law at the University of Tromsø and the University of Bergen. In the autumn of 2026, I will supervise master's students writing theses on criminal law at the University of Bergen and the University of Tromsø.

I have served as an examiner for introductory legal method courses at the University of Bergen and for master's theses in criminal law at the University of Stavanger.
