What is a justification?
A justification is an explanation of the examiner’s evaluation of your performance on the exam. A justification is an academic assessment, and the examiner will formulate it in the way they deem most appropriate. The examiner may choose to give you the explanation either in writing or orally.
What is the deadline for requesting a justification?
You must request a justification within one (1) week after the grade is published.
How do I request a justification for the grade?
You request a justification on Studentweb. Go to the menu and then choose “Exam appeal”, choose your course, and click on the button “Explanation of grade”.
At the Faculty of Law, you can see how to get a justification on the course page at Mitt UiB.
When do I get the justification and where does it come to me?
It can take up to two (2) weeks for you to receive the justification.
You can usually find the justification on Studentweb and Inspera. In some courses, you will receive it by e-mail, or you will receive it orally (see the course page in Mitt UiB for more information about this).
How do I get a justification for oral and practical tests?
For exams where you present or perform something orally, or exams where you are assessed on what you do, such as placements, you must ask for a justification immediately after you have received the grade. As a rule, you will receive an oral explanation directly after you have asked for it. Examples of other non-verifiable exams where you have to request a justification right after receiving your grade are oral exams, placements, concerts, exhibitions, clinical trials, OSCE and trial lectures.
How do I get a justification for a portfolio exam?
You receive only one result that applies to everything you have done in the portfolio. The justification for the result therefore applies to all the works included in the portfolio.
What are assessment guidelines?
The examiner grades your exam using assessment guidelines. The guidelines contain general and academic conditions for the assessment of exams. They ensure that the grading is thorough and consistent regardless of which examiner assesses which exam question. All exams must have assessment guidelines, and it may be useful for you as a student to read the one that applies to your exams.
