The work in a portfolio exam and in exam with parts may account for different percentages of the course grade. If a portfolio exam or exam with parts consists of two assignments and one reflection note, assignment 1 may count for 20 percent, assignment 2 may count for 50 percent, and the reflection note may count for 30 percent of the course grade.
If you become ill (have a valid absence) or cancel an exam, you can take a take an exam again (resit exams) in some courses. It is stated in the course description whether you can retake an exam or not, under the heading "Assessment Semester".
Portfolio Exam
Some courses have a portfolio exam. It consists of submissions or other work you have done during the semester. You will receive an overall assessment of all the work in the portfolio. This means that the examiner will give you a grade for the entire portfolio.
If you want to appeal the grade, you cannot appeal against individual pieces of work that make up the portfolio. You must appeal against the entire portfolio, and the examiner will reassess all of the work. You will receive a new, overall assessment, which will be the portfolio grade.
Exam with parts
The work that makes up an exam with parts is called a partial exam. When you have completed a partial exam, you will receive a grade for it. When all the partial exams have been completed, the course grade is calculated. The course grade is an average of the grades you have received on the partial exams.
If you believe that the grade for a partial exam is incorrect, you can appeal it. A grading committee will then reassess the partial exam. You can appeal all partial exams. If your grade for a partial exam is changed after an appeal, the course grade will be recalculated. Whether the course grade is changed as a result of a changed partial grade depends on how large a percentage of the course the partial exam constitutes.
