Ericaceae (the heather family)

Ericaceae is one of the larger flowering plant families, with more than 4,000 species that often grow in acidic, nutrient-poor habitats. Much of the diversity lies in two large genera – Rhododendron and Erica – but the family also includes bilberry and blueberry (Vaccinium) and heather (Calluna vulgaris).

The Arboretum has both a large species collection and a cultivar collection of Rhododendron, as well as the Heather Garden with various Ericaceae species and cultivars. Arboretet har både store artssamling (external link) og kultivarsamling av Rhododendron samt Lynghagen med forskjellige Ericaceae arter og kultivarer. Samlingene brukes aktivt i forskning på systematikk og bevaring.
