3, 2, 1… Launch! Interdisciplinary Network for Research on Gender and Games open for registrations!
It's time. After more than a year of careful planning, we are happy to announce that our Interdisciplinary Network for Research on Gender and Games (GG) is now open to new members.

We welcome anyone whose research deals with gender and games (in a broad sense, as we wish to keep definitions of both as broad and inclusive as possible) to fill in our application form.
Especially given current political and cultural pressures, we believe it is time for an Interdisciplinary Network for Research on Gender and Games (external link). The network follows from a series of workshops in 2024 and 2025, bringing together early career scholars working on gender and games research. Together with the participants of the workshops, we started envisioning what GG could be. Now, we are ready to welcome you.
We want GG to be a network in which researchers on gender and games come together to form an active and care-full community. It is a space to discuss, to help each other out, and to collaborate. This requires active engagement and a careful attitude from everyone involved in ways that ensures the safety of our members. To this end, we ask researchers interested in joining to fill in a registration form (external link). This allows us to keep track of who joins the network and allows prospective members to put their commitment to the network's values into words. The applications will not be evaluated on quality. At the same time, because in so many countries even inquiring on gender equals being mistreated, registration done via a form is a necessary security step. We are sad that it feels necessary to have such safety measures, but we ourselves are often forced to choose between openness and safety.
While this increases the threshold for participation in the network, we believe it is a necessary step to nurture a lively and vibrant community. We encourage members to take ownership of the network, as we currently work without a board. In the past couple of months we have begun hosting online reading group and theory sessions, and we aim to continue similar activities in the future. We use Discord to communicate and discuss asynchronously as well, sharing our work and giving each other feedback. Besides, we will continue to make efforts to meet in-person at conference workshops or organize standalone events, which will often be open to researchers who are not (yet) members of the network as well.
