Strategic Discussions at the Pandemic Centre
The pandemic taught us that preparedness is not just about health—it’s about society’s ability to respond to uncertainty. This was on top of the agenda when the Pandemic Centre' steering committee and strategic work group gathered at Alrek Health Cluster.

The Pandemic Centre is led on a daily basis by Director and Professor Esperanza Diaz, ensuring strong academic leadership and coordination. But the Centre’s strength lies in its collaborative structure: every faculty at the University of Bergen is represented in the Strategic Working Group, which meets at least twice a year for dynamic discussions, knowledge sharing, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Above this group sits the Steering Committee, composed of all UiB’s deans, providing strategic guidance and institutional alignment.
Today, both the Steering Committee and the strategic working group gathered at Alrek Health Cluster to reflect and discuss on lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and to shape the future—building resilience and preparedness for health and societal challenges ahead, within the framework of the Pandemic Centre.
Through knowledge sharing, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and strategic planning, the Centre aims to transform pandemic insights into actionable approaches for total preparedness and crisis management.
