Gathering of international and local experts working on the intersection of modelling and experiments of porous media flow and kick-off of FRIPRO project TIME₄CO₂.

Scope

Image analysis is central to the quantitative study of porous media flow in laboratory settings and its comparison with mathematical models. This workshop brings together international experts and active research groups in Bergen working at the intersection of modeling and experiments. The event also marks the launch of the RCN-funded FRIPRO project TIME₄CO₂ (external link) (2025–2029), a collaboration between Jakub Both (Dept. of Mathematics, U. Bergen), Martin Fernø (Dept. of Physics and Technology, U. Bergen) and Jan M. Nordbotten (Dept. of Mathematics, U. Bergen). The project aims to reduce modeling errors and enhance simulation technologies for CCS by analyzing CO₂ storage experiments in complex geometries using the FluidFlower (external link) concept, supported by Darcy-scale image analysis and state-of-the-art simulations.

Accommodation

  • Accommodation at Haaheim Gård (external link) will be organized for all participants.
  • If required one extra stay in Bergen city center can be arranged Dec 7-8.

Transportation to the venue

The workshop venue, Haaheim Gård, is located approximately 50 km from Bergen city center, on the island of Tysnesøy. To make your journey as smooth as possible, we have arranged private bus transportation.

If you prefer to arrange your own transportation, please be aware of the ferry schedule. The recommended route includes the Halhjem–Våge ferry, which departs at 10:45 on December 8. You can find the full schedule here (external link).

Important for air travelers: If you plan to arrive by plane on December 8, please ensure your flight schedule allows enough time to reach the ferry or join the bus at the University. A taxi ride from Bergen Airport to the Halhjem ferry terminal takes approximately 25 minutes. If you wish to join the bus at the ferry dock, please note that the ferry runs every 90 minutes, so careful planning is essential.
