PhD-candidate Raphael Michaeli defending his thesis
Raphael Michaeli successfully defended his PhD thesis, "Performing Praise to the Prophet: From Manuscript to Print", at the University of Bergen on 25 September 2026.

In his dissertation, Michaeli examines the transition from manuscript to print in Islamic devotional literature on the Swahili Coast during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
The two external reviewers were Dr Annachiara Raia, (external link) Leiden University, and Associate Professor Alessandro Gori (external link), University of Copenhagen
Michaeli conducted his research as part of the MprinT-project at the University of Bergen. The project was supervised by Professor Anne K. Bang and Professor Kjersti Larsen (external link).
