Technology and Materiality
Technology and Materiality (T&M) is a dynamic research group exploring the evolving relationships between emerging technologies, materials, and creative practices. Our work spans a wide range of topics, from cutting-edge innovations like artificial intelligence, extended reality (VR/AR/MR – XR), and 3D printing, to traditional crafts and material experimentation.
About the research group
We investigate how technologies shape, and are shaped by, human creativity, cultural practices, and ethical considerations. Through hands-on approaches such as experimental making, structure and material testing, and critical making, we engage with both digital and physical forms of expression. Our research embraces artistic and visual practices, aesthetics, and the role of creativity in technological development.
Key areas of interest include:
- Emerging technologies and intelligent systems
- Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, and automation
- Maker culture, open-source innovation, and hacking
- Re-adaptation, re-design, and the blending of tradition with innovation
- The ethics of technology and materiality in contemporary society
T&M fosters a collaborative and exploratory environment where researchers, artists, designers, and technologists come together to rethink how we interact with the material and technological world around us.
