Via her extensive outreach and scientific publications, she has helped promote important principles that nature and people must be able to coexist, and that we must manage our lands to optimise this coexistence. In the Norsk Biologforening committee's assessment, her efforts are absolutely exceptional, working tirelessly for knowledge-based solutions for our nature both as a researcher and teacher.
Vigids is the 25th recipient of the Bonnevie Prize (external link). The first recipient of the Bonnevie Prize in 2000 was Knut Fægri from the then Botany Department at UiB where Vigdis was doing her PhD. Part of her prize was some artwork by Harald Kryvi, who was also awarded the Bonnevie Prize in 2013.
