A Global Classroom for Global Challenges
A Global Classroom for Global Challenges aims to diversify teaching curricula, pedagogical approaches, and classrooms focusing on the politics and governance of global challenges. It does so by bringing together students and teaching staff from across five universities – Bergen, the University of São Paulo, Toronto Metropolitan University, the University of Washington in Seattle, and the University of the Western Cape – through mobilities and joint online collaborative teaching initiatives. The project is funded by the Norwegian Agency for Higher Education (UTFORSK program).
About the research project
As part of the then brand-new MA in Politics and Governance of Global Challenges, in 2025, the Department of Government established a partnership between five universities in Brazil (São Paulo), Canada (Toronto Metropolitan), Norway (Bergen), South Africa (Western Cape) and the United States (U Washington/Seattle). The project links up partners’ respective teaching programs in global politics, policy and public administration and international law geared towards addressing pressing global challenges, from displacement and climate change to food security or an out-of-hands global tech race.
Through 24 student mobilities, 4-5 staff exchanges, joint workshops, a repertoire of teaching materials, and the development of collaborative online international learning environments, we aim to diversify our classrooms and learn from and with students and university teachers across the globe.
