Contemporary discourse on children and parenting
This PhD project aimed to explore the contemporary discourse on children and parenting in two current, controversial and much-debated catchment areas.
About the research project
Based on what it means to be a child and parent, with both being cultural issues which change with time and context, the aim of this PhD project was to explore the contemporary discourse on children and parenting i two current, controversial and much-debated catchment areas. The first is the Norwegian debate about equal rights to adoption for homosexual and heterosexual couples, and the second is the child welfare services' interaction with ethnic minority parents. Data was gathered from a country wide survey on attitudes on LGBT people and selected newspaper articles, where the child welfare services interference with ethnic minorities is debated.
