CompLiNOR
CompLiNOR - the Research School for Computational Life Sciences in Norway - is a national PhD-level research school funded by the Research Council of Norway (RCN). Coordinated out of the Computational Biology Unit (CBU) at the University of Bergen (UiB), the school bridges the gap between theoretical modeling and biological data, from molecules to ecosystems.
About the research school
The research school brings together leading experts from six universities in Norway as well as from non-university institutions, who are developing a unique training program in computational life sciences.
Activities
CompLiNOR offers specialized courses and workshops for PhD students across Norway, and it connects young researchers with leading national and international experts in the field at an annual conference. The curriculum bridges medicine, biology, (bio-)chemistry, and ecology with mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
- PhD courses: CompLiNOR organizes about four courses per year. A course is usually worth 3-5 ECTS credits and often requires a one-week at-home pre-assignment, 3-5 days in residence, and a one-week take-home assignment.
- Workshops: Workshops are typically more practical (e.g. with students working on their own data) and closer to frontline research than courses. Workshops are arranged as one gathering, typically over one or two weeks.
- Summer schools: Organized by our students every two years.
- Annual conference: A national meeting place with keynote lectures, student presentations, softskill workshops, and a supervisor forum.
- Travel grants for internships and exchange: CompliNOR provides about 10 travel grants per year for research stays at different institutions nationally or abroad, or for internships in industry or public sector.
