Grants for courses and conferences

Members of the Research School can apply for grants to contribute to cover expenses associated with attending courses or conferences. The focus is on courses within Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden, Denmark).

General information

Each grant is for 7000NOK.  

*For members from Tromsø and members travelling to Tromsø or more remote or higher-cost destinations for courses/conferences, a higher amount will be considered. 

The following requirements must be fulfilled:

  • Provided the member submits an abstract to the Global Health Conference, s/he is entitled to a travel grant for this conference and the adjacent PhD/PostDoc conference. In addition to the grant for the Global Health Conference, each member will have maximum one grant per year.
  • The course or conference should be provided by an acknowledged institution.
  • As a general rule, a course should give the applicant ECTS credits.
  • As a general rule, when the application is for a conference, the applicant should give an oral or poster presentation at the conference.
  • Applicants who have received funding from the Research School before, are still eligible to apply, but will not be prioritized.
  • Applications must include a budget overview with reasonable travel and accommodation expenses.
  • The course or conference must arguably be relevant and beneficial for the applicant’s academic or professional development or career.
  • The applicant must hand in a report (one page) to the Research School after the course or conference.
  • The application must be submitted before the event.

 

The application deadline for courses and conferences held in 2026 is 01 March 2026. 

Applications are assessed once annually after the main application deadline of 1 March. All applications received by the deadline will be assessed together. The maximum grant amount is normally NOK 7000 per applicant per year.

How to apply for grants for courses or conferences

Your application should include the following (max 2 pages):

  • Information about the course or conference (title, dates, location, program, ECTS credits, etc.)
  • An account of the relevance of the course or conference for your academic work, and an account of your expected benefits of attending the course or conference.
  • A budget outlining your expenses associated with attending the course or conference (registration fee, travel costs, accommodation costs). You should choose environmentally friendly means of transportation when possible.
  • A confirmation from the course or conference provider that your abstract has been accepted.
