Objectives and Content
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills, and general competence:
Knowledge
- have a general picture of Chinese civilization development through milestone events happening throughout dynastic history.
- have a multidimensional understanding about Chinese society through modern history, geography, education development, religion, people (ethnic groups) and politics (parties, governance and administration structure).
Skills
- be able to talk about and present Chinese culture, history and society related issues.
General Competence
- have insight in modern China and Chinese people from the perspectives of history and traditional culture.

Teaching and learning methods
Compulsory Assignments and Attendance
This course has one final written exam. In order to be eligible to take the exam, the student will hold a short presentation on a topic related to China and turn in a written report. Both the presentation and report are group projects. More information about requirements will be given at the beginning of the semester. Students must attend at least 75 % of the classes.
Approval on mandatory assignments is valid only for the semester in which the course is conducted, as well as for the following semester.
