Course description

Objectives and Content

Aim:

The aim of this course is to give the student experiential insight into how sustainability plays out in a specific enterprise or other organization. The course will provide insight into sustainability-related needs in the organization, and serve as a starting point for the student's own reflection on the relationship between theory and practice. The student will contribute with sustainability perspectives in the organization, and not only participate in daily tasks. The work of contributing sustainability perspectives will be described in a separate practice agreement. The internship will prepare the students for working life, and experience and observations from the stay will provide content for the master's thesis in the course SDG351 Master's Thesis (30 credits).

Content:

Through observation, interaction, supervision and practice, the students will gain insight into how sustainability challenges are solved practically in companies and other organizations.

The students implements a plan to contribute with sustainability perspective in an organization as detailed in an internship agreement and at the same time participates in daily tasks where she/he is placed. The student will also take field notes and collect documentation for use in SDG351.

Access to the Course
The course is open to students enrolled in the Master programme in Sustainability at the University of Bergen.
Teaching and learning methods

The student will attend 5-10 seminars (10-20 hours) covering key topics from mandatory courses, adapted to the specialization of each student. The seminars must be attended during working hours.

The internship period should be 12-16 weeks long, with a five-day workweek.

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance
Completed internship period (12-16 weeks long, with a five-day workweek) in accordance with the internship agreement, confirmed by the student, SVT, and the organization.
Forms of Assessment
The internship report (3000-6000 words + any attachments) that explains the plan bringing in a sustainability perspective into the organization, its implementation, and the results. The report must also include field notes and other documentation of implementation and results. Notes and other documentation may be compiled in a separate appendix to the report

The course will be evaluated in accordance with the quality assurance system of the University of Bergen.
