Who can apply?
Refugees and immigrants with a residence permit in Norway may apply for admission to intermediate and advanced-level Norwegian language courses through Søknadsweb. Applicants must have an educational background equivalent to the Norwegian general university admissions certification (with the exception of the language requirements).
You are not eligible to apply if you have already been admitted to a study programme at the University of Bergen or if you already meet the Norwegian language requirement.
Which courses can you apply for?
As an external applicant, you may apply for admission to NOR-U2 (Group B), NOR-U3 (Group B) and NOR-U4. To be admitted to NOR-U4, you must have achieved a minimum grade of C in NOR-U3 at UiB.
All courses are taught during daytime hours.
When and where can you apply?
Application period for the autumn semester: 1 March to 15 April
Application period for the spring semester: 2 September to 15 October
Applications and supporting documentation must be submitted through Søknadsweb.
After you have applied, you will be invited to take a placement test unless you have previously passed a relevant Norwegian language course at the University of Bergen, or have uploaded documentation of a passed Norwegian language course from another Norwegian university.
You must upload all required documentation in Søknadsweb before the application deadline.
Applications that are incomplete or missing required documentation by the deadline will not be considered for admission.
Which documents must you upload with your application?
The following documents must be uploaded:
- Documentation of your educational background. Documents must be translated by an authorised translator into Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, or English. Both the original documents and the translations must be uploaded.
- Secondary school certificate or high school diploma.
- Diplomas and transcripts from higher education institutions.
- A copy of your passport.
- Proof of identity and residence permit in Norway.
- Applicants from countries outside the EU/EEA: residence permit card and letter from the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI).
- Applicants from EU/EEA countries: registration certificate issued by the police.
The following documents must be uploaded, if applicable:
- Recognition of foreign qualifications issued by HK-dir or NOKUT.
- Documentation of any change of name.
