Forskning
Oddvar Oppegaard er overlege ved Infeksjonsseksjonen, Medisinsk Klinikk, Haukeland Universitetssjukehus og 1. amanuensis ved Klinisk institutt 2, UiB. Det viktige forskningsfeltet har vært alvorlige streptokokkinfeksjoner med hovedfokus på bakteriell virulens, resistens og patogenese. Arbeidet omfatter bioinformatisk helgenomanalyse, samt genetisk karakterisering og manipulasjon av bakterielle stammer i laboratoriet. For tiden deltar Oppegaard og streptokokkforskningsgruppen ved Universitetet i Bergen og Haukeland universitetssykehus i PERMIT- og PERAID-prosjektene (https://permedinfect.com/) finansiert av Nordforsk og EU. Disse prosjektene har som mål å fremme forskning på persontilpasset medisin (PM) ved alvorlige infeksjonssykdommer, spesielt livstruende nekrotiserende bløtvevsinfeksjoner (NSTI) og sepsis.
