Exploring Medicine Across the Medieval World
Connecting researchers working with early medieval medical manuscripts within Europe and beyond
This one-day workshop brings together researchers working on medieval medicine in the humanities at the University of Bergen and fellow institutions. Participants will present their work and engage in discussions with like-minded scholars, fostering an open exchange of ideas across disciplines and research traditions.
The aim of the seminar is twofold: to provide an orientation on different periods and areas of medieval medicine, and to showcase individual research projects. Each participant will give a brief overview of their research area, followed by a more in-depth presentation of their own work.
By connecting researchers across fields, the workshop seeks to build a shared understanding of medical knowledge and practices in the medieval world, spanning Byzantine, Latin, Norse, Carolingian, and Old English traditions.
