What is Welcome Week?
Welcome Week is your first week as a new student at UiB. It usually takes place in week 33, towards the end of August. During this week you will participate in many different types of activities, including:
- Mentoring activities
- Buddy activities
- Joint events
- Academic and social events organized by your faculty and study programme
We want the Welcome Week to be a safe, inclusive and informative start to your studies. This will help you transition smoothly into both the academic and social aspects of university life.
When is Welcome Week?
Welcome Week 2025 starts on Monday, August 11. This marks the beginning of the academic year and your life as a UiB student. We start this eventful week with the Welcome Ceremony at Muséplass (external link). As a new student you are especially invited, but existing students and employees at UiB are also very welcome to join!
Start-up and attendance
Most people starting a one-year study programme, a bachelor's programme, a professional study programme, or an integrated master's programme start on Monday, August 11. Many meet their start-up group first thing in the day and go together to the Welcome Ceremony.
Master's students often start later during the week or the week after.
Check the time and place for when you should meet on the first day. You will find this information on the page for your study programme, which should be updated around mid-June.

How are you recieved as a new student?
There is a lot to learn as a new student at UiB. Fortunately, you will get help along the way. You will probably be offered the opportunity to join both a buddy group and mentor group. You will then meet other new students, as well as older students who will be able to share their experiences at the university, to make the start of your semester easier.
